Wiltshire
Mere Downs, England by Charlie Waite
Limited Edition Signed Landscape Print
That day I had been accutely aware of the need to guage the precise point at which the transition from dense rain filled clouds to lighter skies would take place. I needed to be there before the change. It was so much the case of virtually begging the wind at that altitude to maintain its force and to blow the entire cloud grouping futher north leaving the clear skies behind.
I had seen that there were a number of objectives; to achieve. Firstly, a need for undiffused light with no rogue cloud left behind to block the path of sunlight. Then, in terms of surface area, the shadow on the slope to the left foreground to the lit slope on the opposite side.
The final gift was a sliver of light to illuminate the narrowest band of land in the top left hand corner. This seemed pivotal to enliven that part of the photograph as otherwise the eye would not have travelled to and would have remained merely as a lifeless green band. It does however act as a good background to set off the lively triangular shapes that collectively travel down to the diagonal gully.
Looking at the image in print form, I fund myself hugely drawn to it for it's sense of order and for that reason alone.
